I’m not a huge Beyonce fan like the rest of the world is, but this video is fantastic. Thanks to Mackenzie for showing me, because I probably won’t have ever clicked on it otherwise.
As long as I stay away from Bedford Ave I love my neighborhood. Recently while walking by one of my favorite intersections that is Metropolitan and Havemeyer Street which was outed by New York Magazine back in January, I noticed Saltie had a new neon sign. Unlike them I thought, but it wasn’t actually Saltie, it was Momofuku’s Milk who opened their storefront after having a pop-up shop that never seemed to close. I’m not a big fan of the too-rich Momofuku cookies, but these fruit in a cup wonders look a lot more my style, and they’re so damn close to my place.
Read Village Voice (Fork in the Road) piece about Momofuku’s Milk, because they actually know what their talking about. Click Here.
When I was young I spent every Summer in Newport. Now I try and get back up to Newport as much as possible. The Newport Folk Festival was something that was always happening every Summer, but as a young kid I had no interest in folk music. Fast forward a bunch of years and I’ve been quite impressed with the lineups the Newport Folk Festival has put together.
I went one year, years ago with my mother. I think the Indigo Girls were the headliner (not a fan), but I remember it was a lot of fun to chill in the sun listening to all sorts of music while drinking Del’s Lemonade (which I’ve always supported becoming Rhode Island’s state drink, to oust Coffee Milk). Huge names such as Johnny Cash, and Bob Dylan have played in front of Fort Adams in Newport, and the talent hasn’t declined at all since, as they had a personal favorite Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros last year which was streamed live by NPR (this year too). This year The Decemberists, Elvis Costello, Tegan & Sara, and my favorite on the ticket, the Freelance Whales will be performing.
Like last year I’ve started trying to plan on how I could manage to make it up to Newport at the end of July to finally make it to the festival for the first time in a long time, and hopefully plan to bike home after the shows.
I saw on Tumblr last night Tumblr-“famous” That Kind of Woman will be attending.
