I’m not a huge Beyonce fan like the rest of the world is, but this video is fantastic. Thanks to Mackenzie for showing me, because I probably won’t have ever clicked on it otherwise.

Single and ready to mingle? Riiiiiiight. Alexa Chung for Harper’s Bazaar Australia.

Recently I’ve been having some superb weekends (like the weekend before last’s pool party) and this weekend was no exception as it was Mackenzie’s brithday evening of surprises (from me). It began with a night at the Ace Hotel in my favorite named New York hood NoMad. It’s easily the best thought out, curated, and run hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Easily. I totally reccommend it, and really can’t wait to go back.

After some relaxation I got a pair of Shakespeare in the Park tickets for Friday’s showing of All’s Well That Ends Well as part two of the birthday evening. If you get the chance to grab tickets you’ll be amazed at the quality of the production.

Before the show we had an hour to kill so we strolled around Central Park. Because of the chance of rain, the park was dead. The mist/fog made the skyline disappear and it felt like we were back in the burbs.

Also, had some time to make a quick gif before the show.

Following Shakespeare we grabbed some food at The Breslin, located in the Ace Hotel. I enjoyed my first Lamb Burger with a side of fries. It was the richest meat I’ve ever had. I could have been happy with half of it. Mackenzie snagged mussels which would generally be my go-to.

Of course we woke up to some delicious Stumptown Coffee, and enormous macarons. After that it was back to reality.

I was a freelancer for two years, and technically still am. Many still think freelancers are slackers or another way of saying unemployed. The biggest pet-peeve is how (some) clients expect to save some money from a one man team, yet expect more from them. Freelancing might be the hardest job out there (probably wrong), but I don’t think I’d change my freelance experience for anything. It’s helped me really understand my field, being a grown-up, and understanding all types of different people. Bottom line…Freelance Ain’t Free.

Come August I’ll be making my first move within New York. I’ll be moving about a five minute drive away from my current digs, but it’s a drastic change in other ways. Unlike my current place, this apartment will have natural light, closet space, and of course laundry in unit. My girlfriend has spent lots of time on planning the layout of the living space, which will include a bar cart that she found this past weekend, it used to be an outdoor patio serving cart. While I’m pumped for the new space as much as she is and how it will look, this bar cart has me thinking what my ideal bar cart would consist of. It wasn’t too hard of a list to think of.1) Jack Daniel’s has somehow become my drink of choice, on rocks, with cola, or mixed with a bunch of stuff, it always seems right.2) Bulleit Bourbon always goes over well for a birthday present for my guy friends (and probably most of my girl friends too). Yet somehow I’ve never bought it for myself.3) Blanton’s is normally out of the price range, but ever since sipping on some after a big birthday dinner with Mackenzie, I’ve been drooling for more.4) Mount Gay is quite popular up in my hometown. I think it’s their nautical hats they sell, but Mount Gay and I have a bit of history between us. It was my first liquor to get drunk off of…at the age of three. True story.5) Sixpoint has been a drinking staple since moving to Brooklyn. It’s on taps everywhere, and now even easier to get with their new nano kegs.6) Ketel One is generally my pick of vodkas. Normally not a Vodka guy, but have recently been getting back into it. I’ve always been a Ketel One supporter since my early 21 days (and earlier) thanks to my college roommate Allison. Ketel One and Tonic, I can hear her voice now.7) Espolon Tequila might not make it on to the cart, but it’s the front runner for tequilas. We don’t really get along, and have never actually tried Espolon, but I’ve heard great things, and the packaging rules.

Finished up Mackenzie Schmidt’s portfolio website last week. Still with some corrections, and a few more pages to develop, but has really been fun working on redoing her site and creating a whole identity for her. Will post the new business cards sometime soon. Check the site out mackenziecschmidt.com, and follow her on Twitter @kenzschmidt.

mackenzieschmidt:

A little insight into a day in the life of Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist.

I interviewed him for the Village Voice once and he was really sweet and chatty, which are the best possible qualities for a Q&A. We talked about how cool old baseball uniforms were, and how he’s not a fan of the Yankees’ new poly-blend pinstripes.
